Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
Course Overview
This qualification enables trainee assessors to attain the knowledge, understanding and ability to perform the role of assessor in a wide range of contexts. It covers understanding the principles and practices of assessment, how to assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding, and how to assess occupational competence in the work environment.
Who Is This Course For?
Individuals wishing to undertake qualification assessment in the further education and skills sector
Those working in Further Education (FE) Colleges, Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities
Individuals currently working in a teaching/training capacity wanting to develop their knowledge and skills of vocational assessment
Total Qualification Time
150 hours (84 GLH minimum, plus 66 hours preparation and study)
Maximum Achievement Period
36 months
What Does the Course Cover?
Mandatory Units:
Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
Assess occupational competence in the work environment
Assessment Method
Practical Assessment: At least 2 assessment observations while trainee assessors assess 2 different learners for Unit 2 and Unit 3 (4 observations total).
Theory Workbooks and Supporting Evidence:
Unit 1: Theory tasks supporting the underpinning knowledge
Unit 2: Theory tasks plus practical activities relating to assessment
Unit 3: Theory tasks plus practical activities relating to assessment
Entry Requirements
Trainee assessors must be at least 19 years old on the first day of training. Trainee assessors must have access to learners completing vocational qualifications in order to generate the evidence required. We advise that trainee assessors have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy.
Certification
On successful completion, delegates receive the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement.
